Contested on the sand, woodball is a game where the athletes use a mallet for teeing off and a fairway for playing and putting, and has therefore been described as a mix of croquet and golf. Each team has from two to four players and the competitors who play the round, or rounds, in the fewest strokes win.
In the first edition of the Asian Beach Games Singapore was victorious in the men's individual event, Malaysia took the men's team top honours, while Chinese Taipei edged out the competition taking gold in both the women's single and team events.
Sanctioned by the International Woodball Federation (IWbF) and the Asian Woodball Federation (AWbF), Muscat 2010 will welcome competition in men's and women's team and singles events.
