Haiyang, China, February 15, 2012: CCTV, host broadcaster of the 3rd Asian Beach Games in Haiyang, China, this June, outlined their production plans at a meeting with the Olympic Council of Asia's TV audit team on Wednesday.
CCTV 5 - the sports channel of China's national broadcaster - was appointed host broadcaster of the 3rd ABG on January 12, and will use its extensive Olympic Games and Asian Games experience to produce the high-definition international feed to rights-holding broadcasters.
CCTV will appoint 400 staff to work on the Games, operate 70 TV cameras, six venue production teams and five high-definition outside broadcast vans, as well as 10 mobile camera teams.
Of the 13 sports and 49 events on show at the Games, which will run from June 16-22, beach soccer and beach volleyball will provide the backbone of the live coverage, while semi-finals and finals will be shown from sepaktakraw, handball, sport climbing, dragon boat, waterskiing and one other sport as yet to be identified.
In addition, the Opening Ceremony on June 16 and Closing Ceremony on June 22 will also be transmitted live.
A CCTV Sports Producer/Director, Zhou Wei, said beach soccer and beach volleyball were well-known sports around the world and the host broadcaster would put special emphasis on these two crowd favourites from the early rounds of competition.
The meeting discussed topics such as English commentary of the events, highlights packages and technical issues, before the delegates from OCA, CCTV and organising committee HABGOC took a tour of the Main Media Centre, which includes the International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre.
CCTV's services in the International Broadcast Centre will include a master control room, editing room, live studio and offices.
